Concrete Removal and Patio Tear-Out in Greer, SC
Greer went from 25,000 people to 35,000 in ten years and has kept going, so it has two kinds of bad concrete. The cracked builder patio on a lot that was a field in 2012, and the drive on a Victor or Apalache mill street that has been there since the mill ran. Jordan breaks both out and hauls them.
Concrete Removal in Greer
Greer is two towns: the mill streets and the new ones
The old Greer is the railroad town of 1876 and the mill villages around Victor, Franklin, Apalache and Greer Mill, where the lots are narrow and the concrete is old. The new Greer is everything that went up after BMW and the airport, subdivisions on both sides of the county line along Wade Hampton Boulevard and out toward Lake Robinson.
The concrete removal calls come from both. On the mill streets it is a drive in pieces, a walk pushed up by a tree, a stoop pulling away from the house. In the subdivisions it is a patio or a drive that cracked within a few years of the pour, because of what was under it.
The patio that cracked in five years
A lot of Greer's newer houses sit on graded lots where the back yard is fill. Concrete poured on fill that was never compacted settles with it, and a patio that was flat at closing ends up tilted toward the house with a crack through the middle.
Jordan breaks the slab out with the hydraulic breaker, hauls the pieces and then deals with the real problem, which is the ground. The fill is compacted in layers before anything goes back. If the yard was also holding water, that gets fixed at the same time through yard drainage in Greer, since a wet patio base is usually a wet yard first.
Steps, stoops and the footing under them
Poured steps look small and are not. A set of three steps at a back door can be a solid block of concrete with a footing below grade, and on an older Greer house there may be a second set of steps buried under the first from a remodel.
The breaker takes them apart from the top down, and the excavator digs out the footing so nothing is left to trip over or to stop a new landing going in. Steps and stoops are hauled with the rest. If a deck is coming off at the same time, demolition in Greer covers that side of the job.
Which office: Greer, Greenville County or Spartanburg County
Greer sits on the county line, with Line Street marking it, and the city has been annexing for years, so the first question is whose rules apply. Inside the city, Building and Development Standards at 301 East Poinsett Street handles permits. Outside it, the lot is in either Greenville County or Spartanburg County, and each has its own building office.
Breaking out a patio rarely needs a permit, but a new drive meeting a city street can. Before the breaker starts, SC811 marks buried public lines, which South Carolina law requires and which takes three working days. In Greer many lots are served by Greer CPW for power, gas and water, and any of those can run under a drive.
What goes back: concrete, gravel or grass
Jordan pours as well as breaks, so a new patio or drive can go on the same quote through concrete services, with the base done properly this time. What a concrete driveway costs walks through the numbers for the new part.
If the drive is going to gravel instead, it is cut, based and crowned on the same visit. If nothing is going back, the hole is filled in compacted layers, graded to drain away from the house and left ready for seed. The demolition service page lists the tear-down work that often goes with it.
One figure for the trip from Tryon
Greer is one of the longer drives on the map, and the drive is in the price. A single cracked patio works best when it rides along with other work in Greer or Taylors that week, or when there is more on the lot: a drive and a walk, a patio and a deck, a slab and a stump.
Two photos and the neighbourhood name get one figure with the breaking, the hauling and the grading in it. If something needs a closer look, Jordan comes out, which costs nothing. The Greer page covers the rest of what he does in town.

Greer runs straight into its neighbours. The same tear-outs go on in Taylors, next door along Wade Hampton Boulevard, in Duncan east along Highway 290, and down in Spartanburg. Lyman, Wellford and Tigerville sit between them, and Greenville is a few miles further down the road. Greer is a long enough drive from Tryon that pairing two jobs makes the day. Both counties, and the North Carolina side, are on the service area page.

Questions people ask
Not seeing yours? Call (828) 574-4474 and ask Jordan, or read the guides.
Do I need a permit to take out a patio in Greer?
Usually not for a patio on your own lot, but ask, because Greer has city rules inside the limits and county rules outside them. Inside the city, Building and Development Standards at 301 East Poinsett Street is the office. A new drive that meets a city street is the part most likely to need a look.
Why did my patio crack so soon after the house was built?
Most often because it was poured on fill that was never compacted. The ground settled, the slab followed and cracked where it could not. The fix is not just a new slab but a compacted base under it, which is why the tear-out and the pour work best as one job.
Who marks the lines before you break the drive?
SC811 arranges for the utilities to mark their buried public lines, and South Carolina law requires that notice, which takes three working days. On a lot served by Greer CPW, power, gas and water can all be in the ground near the drive. Private lines from the house to a shed are not marked, so say where those run.
Can you pour the new driveway too?
Yes. Jordan does the tear-out, the base and the new pour as one job with one figure. The old drive comes out, the ground is compacted and stoned, and the new slab goes down on something that will hold it. Concrete driveway cost explains what sets the price.
Is Greer too far from Tryon for one small slab?
It is a longer drive, and that is in the price. One small slab works best paired with other work on the lot or with other jobs in the Greer and Taylors area that week. Send two photos and the neighbourhood name and you will get a straight answer on timing and cost.
