When mulching is the right call
Overgrown acreage, trails, shooting lanes and understory that needs opening up without the ground being scraped. The chip layer holds soil in place over winter and breaks down through the following season.
When it is not
Mulching works at ground level. It does not take root systems out, and it leaves a chip layer rather than bare dirt. If you are digging, building or seeding straight away, clearing is the honest answer instead.
