Stump grinding and stump removal in Edneyville, on ridge land where a hillside stump, an old farm stump or a blown-over root ball is more likely than a stump by a patio. Send two photos and Jordan will tell you how he would handle it.
Grinding and Removing Stumps in Edneyville, NC
Rain that falls on one side of Edneyville ends up in the Atlantic, and rain on the other side ends up in the Gulf of Mexico. The Eastern Continental Divide runs through the middle of the community. Reedypatch Creek carries the east side toward the Broad River, and Clear Creek takes the west side down to Mud Creek and the French Broad. The 2020 census counted every resident as rural, and the land shows it: ridges, hollows, pasture and long drives off US 64.
The place is named for the Rev. Samuel Edney, a Methodist minister who was also postmaster and magistrate. He and his brother Asa were the first settlers. Farm country this old tends to leave old stumps: a big hardwood cut at a yard edge long ago, a row of them on a fence line, a blow-down nobody got to. Edneyville, like the rest of Henderson County, falls within our usual range, and a tracked Carlton takes such stumps down below grade. Our page on old and rotted stumps covers the soft ones.
Hillsides and where the rain goes
On sloping ground, how a stump comes out matters as much as whether it does. Grinding leaves the roots and the soil around them in place. Pulling a root ball out whole opens a hole and loosens soil that the next hard rain can carry downhill toward whichever creek is below you. If the stump only needs to be gone from the surface, grinding is the gentler choice on an Edneyville hillside. Where it must come out, the hole is backfilled. Loose chips should not be left where a downpour can wash them off the slope.
Pasture edges and old farm stumps
Stumps on farm ground are rarely alone. They sit along fence lines, at the corner of a field, or in a pasture where a mower or a tractor tire finds them. Some have been there so long the top has gone soft and the roots are still hard. All of them grind below grade, and doing a row in one visit spreads the setup across every stump. Clearing brush or saplings around them can be part of the same job, so mention it when you ask for a quote.
Getting in off US 64
Many Edneyville homes sit well back from US 64, up a drive or a farm lane. The truck and trailer park wherever there is room, and the tracked grinder walks the rest of the way under its own power. Matting goes down where a paved drive needs protecting. A long walk in adds time, so a photo of the route helps the quote. Lines owned by utilities get located through 811 before the wheel goes near them. A well line, a septic run or a buried barn feed will not be on that map, so tell us where yours go.

Edneyville Stump Questions
The big questions each have a full guide. Shorter answers are on the FAQ page.
Our Edneyville house is at the top of a long drive. Can the grinder get up to the stump?
Most likely. The grinder travels on its own tracks from wherever the trailer can park, and tracks climb a drive or a lane that a wheeled machine would struggle on. Send a photo of the route as well as the stump. If the walk in is long, it adds some time on site, and the quote will reflect that before any work is booked.
A tree blew over on our Edneyville land and the root ball is standing on edge. What can be done with it?
The loader with its grapple or the excavator lifts the root plate out, and the hole it leaves is backfilled. Send photos of the root ball and the trunk, and say what is close by. Our guide on what to do with an uprooted tree root ball explains the options and what to watch for before anyone cuts the trunk free.
Should a stump on a steep bank at our Edneyville place be ground or pulled out?
Usually ground. Grinding takes it below grade and leaves the roots holding the soil while they rot. Pulling it opens up the bank to rain. The exception is when something is going in that spot, such as a footing, a wall or a drain, because then the root ball has to come out whole. How a Job Runs
Send two photos
One of the stump with something for scale, one of the way in, plus your town. Call, use the form, or email the photos.
Get your quote
Jordan quotes every job himself. Estimates are free, and you have the number before any work starts.
Lines get marked
Public utility lines are located through 811 before grinding near them. 811 does not mark private lines, so point out irrigation, lighting, invisible fence and septic parts.
The grind
The stump is ground in passes to below grade, usually four to eight inches under. Tell us first if you are planting or laying turf and it goes deeper.
Clean ground
Grindings are raked back into the hole and topped, left in a pile for your beds, or hauled off. Any marks on the lawn get raked.
